The Client’s Challenge
The client wanted to add privacy to its rooftops, balconies and interior apartments by using the beauty of nature.
Using nature to add privacy can be challenging for many reasons, however. It can be difficult to find the right plants that will not only provide privacy, but also look good and complement the existing design. So, there are many factors to consider when choosing plants for privacy, such as light and water requirements, size, and growth habit.
Another challenge is making sure that the plants chosen will not pose a safety hazard to those who live or work nearby. It can also be difficult to find plants that will provide adequate privacy without blocking out too much light or views
The Jay Scotts Solution
Adding different levels of heights to control the views was the ideal solution for the client. It lets them add beauty and privacy to their spaces by creating visual interest and blocking unwanted views.
By adding height variation, they were also able to control the amount of light and privacy in their spaces. Conscious of how designs and different heights can influence the desired effect, taller elements were added near windows to block unwanted views and add privacy, while lower elements provided a more open feeling.
The Client’s Result
Adding height creates a more dramatic view, while also providing privacy and protection from the elements. In addition, adding height helps to control the amount of sunlight that enters an outdoor space, making it more comfortable to spend time in.
