Plaza & civic square

Open ground with long sightlines, where only oversized volumes hold scale against the paving.

Typical
Extra-wide rectangular

Streetscape & sidewalk

Repeating runs that calm traffic, define the pedestrian zone and take daily public contact.

Typical

Transit & interchange

High-throughput public interiors and forecourts, where units must never narrow an escape route.

Typical

Parks & promenades

Exposed positions with irrigation but little shelter. Freeze-thaw and UV stability decide the specification.

Site conditions

What public sites do to a
planter — and what to specify

Full exposure and wind load

Open plazas and waterfronts see sustained wind. Ballast the base, or anchor through it where the site is fully exposed.

Ballast or anchor · confirm on plan

Freeze-thaw cycles

Water in a porous planter cracks it. Fiberglass is freeze-thaw stable from −40°F to 180°F; drain before first frost.

Exterior rated · drain for winter

Public contact and vandalism

Units get sat on, tagged and knocked. Surfaces clean and re-finish on site, so a repair is a service call.

Touch-up kits · repairable

Access and installation

Civic sites have restricted delivery windows. At a tenth of concrete weight, no crane is needed to set a large unit.

Plan freight and access early

Finishes that hold up

Finishes most specified for civic and streetscape work

Public work favours finishes that weather quietly and hide the marks of a maintenance regime. Cement grey and charcoal sit naturally against paving; terracotta and bronze warm a hard landscape. Any RAL matched at no tooling charge.
