Site conditions

What hospitality sites do to a
planter — and what to specify

Salt air and coastal exposure

Salt deposits dull most finishes and corrode metal planters within a season or two. Fiberglass does not corrode, and rinsing clears deposits.

Matte finishes · exterior rated

Wind on decks and rooftops

Tall units in exposed positions need mass low down. Ballast the base before the drainage layer, or anchor where the site is fully open.

Ballast or anchor tall units

Chlorine, irrigation and wet floors

Pool chemistry and constant wetting mark porous materials. Gel-coat holds up, and no drainage keeps finished interior floors dry.

Specify drainage per zone

Guest and service traffic

Units get leaned on, knocked by carts and cleaned around daily. Damage sands and re-finishes on site rather than being replaced.

Finishes that hold up

Finishes most specified for resort work

Matte holds its appearance longest in full sun and hides water spotting around pools and irrigation. Gloss is reserved for interior feature pieces. Any RAL can be matched to an existing property palette at no tooling charge.
